Fibrenetix moves into the mid-range NAS market

with the launch of SpectraNAS

Fibrenetix, one of the pioneers in the UK of Network Attached Storage (NAS) solutions, has announced that it is focusing on the provision of mid-range and high-end NAS solutions.

Announcing this strategic move, Jes Nagel, Managing Director of Fibrenetix, unveiled SpectraNAS, a new family of NAS products from the company.

“Having served the NAS market for a number of years, we have became increasingly convinced that customers need to be looking at mid-range solutions, as a minimum, in order to access the real benefits of this technology.

“We have therefore designed the SpectraNAS family of products in order to offer organisations one of the highest performance and feature-rich solutions in its class – at a cost per Terabyte that cannot be matched.”

The SpectraNAS product range consists of three product types designed to fulfil most mid-range and high-end requirements.

SpectraNAS A-Type is a high performance, cost efficient storage solution aimed at the mid-range market place. When an External RAID system is attached to the dual Ultra 160 SCSI system, the SpectraNAS A-Type provides 2.5 Terabytes of RAID-protected, high-performance storage capacity.

SpectraNAS E-Type, is the top of the range NAS controller. Offering Dual AMD Athlon processors and GigaBit Ethernet connection, the E-type not only features the highest performance, but also a unique level of resilience — with Hot-Swap PSU’s. Technical Director, Dennis Hicks, said “The SpectraNAS E-Type is aimed at the high performance, high-end market place where reliability, performance and storage capacity (5.7TB per NAS controller) cannot be compromised.”

SpectraNAS X-Type, is a combined RAID solution and NAS controller. The 2U 19” Rack mounted enclosure supports up to 6x Ultra 160 SCSI HDDs, Dual P4 Intel processors and 2x 10/100MB Ethernet connections - support for up to 2x dual GigaBit Ethernet adapters is standard. Additional RAID storage can be attached to the dual Ultra 160 SCSI port, offering up to 6 Terabytes of storage capacity. “With dual Hot Swap PSUs, the X-Type offers more features than any other mid-range NAS product.” said Dennis Hicks.

The SpectraNAS range is Linux-based, using a proprietary transaction engine developed by Fibrenetix – which ensures that data is managed quickly and reliably. SpectraNAS allows users to manage one or many Fibrenetix powered NAS devices through a powerful and easy to use Java or HTML based user interface.

Performance, Reliability and Functionality

“With transfer rates exceeding 225Mbits per second, SpectraNAS provides the best throughput of any NAS solution in its class due to its robust and streamlined architecture.” said Dennis Hicks.

SpectraNAS allows Windows, Unix and Macintosh users to easily and quickly share data across a network, and SpectraNAS also provides support for Microsoft Domain Security. When connected to a Fibrenetix Zero-D SCSI-IDE RAID system, features including Hot Swap HDDs, Hot Spare and RAID levels 0, 1, 3 and 5 are fully supported.

“Fibrenetix believes that there is no other NAS offering in the marketplace today that allows OEMs and Systems Integrators to provide a better, faster or less expensive solution to their customers.” said Jes Nagel.

About Fibrenetix

Fibrenetix Ltd is the market leader for cost effective storage systems. Established in 1976, initially to serve the IT Networking industry, it has since become a leading supplier in the storage industry.

With over 4,000 RAID systems installed in the last four years, Fibrenetix Storage Ltd is recognised as a pioneer of IDE and cost effective RAID solutions. The Company has also expanded its product line to cover key technologies like SAN, NAS and Storage Virtualisation.

Fibrenetix was an early supplier in the market for network attached storage (NAS) technology and the Company currently delivers a state of the art product range of high performance NAS appliance products.

The storage capacity of its products ranges from 200GB to 3.2 Terabytes in a single 4U high enclosure. The Company’s largest single storage installation is currently a 120 Terabyte “grid” computer installation.

Fibrenetix is dedicated to introducing new cutting edge technologies to the market place, achieved by in-house development and working closely with long standing technology partners such as Accusys Inc.
